S.B.S. Government College, Hili (S.B.S. stands for Subal Chandra Bimala Sundari ) is situated in border area of Hili (an international border with Bangladesh) in the district Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal. This is the first higher educational institution in the entire block. The college runs full- fledged programmes in humanities like History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Bengali and English with Honours and General courses and Zoology (Hon). The college will get new stream and subjects in coming years step by step to cater the best education. Although it is located at very remote area, The College is well connected by the road transportation from Balurghat to Hili and Patiram to Hili.
It is only the third year of its academic inception, the college has been successfully running its academic activities with the full enthusiasm, all the teaching staff and UDC are full time. All the teachers have been appointed by the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, on recommendation of the West Bengal Public Service Commission as a W.B.E.S (West Bengal Education Service). The best teachers are working in the college and the students are also from the various socio-economic and cultural background.
I am feeling very pleased to be the part of the S.B.S Government College, Hili as the first Officer-In-charge of the college. I would like to congratulate all the people of the Hili areas. A very special thanks to Amulya Rantan Biswas ( Donor of the land) and other education lovers for their immense contribution in the field of education.

The college starts its academic journey from session 2015-16 with five humanities subjects ( Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History and Philosophy)and 238 students in annex building of Ramanath High School, Hili till 11th March, 2016. After that college had been shifted in its own building on and from 12th March, 2016. B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology started from the academic session 2016-17 with Botany and Chemistry as elective subjects. Currently more than five hundred students are studying in different disciplines. The college is now temporarily affiliated under the University of Gour Banga. It has completed 3years of academic session in 2018 and first batch of students graduated out successfully. A well maintained canteen is functioning since its beginning in the current building.
The college tries its level best to cater the best higher education to the students and society as well. The college and higher education will be successful in this area if the whole society will be conscious and aware about the higher education and try to cooperate in all the academic interest of the college. The college which is like a child now needs attention and affection of all the people or guardians. Let it be free from all kind of hazardous interferences because ultimately it is the place of intellectual development and educational property of all the people of Hili and its surrounding. The college will always try to produce the pillar of the future society and try its level best to spread good virtue, wisdom and knowledge for the nation building. The college will devote its time to build up better character among the students
